Brigadier General Anayetulla Masum, afwc, psc, was commissioned on 03 December 1998 in the Corps of Engineers. He is a graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, India. He is a Masters in Defence and Strategic Studies from University of Madras, India and holds a Master of Science degree in Military Studies from Bangladesh University of Professionals. He is also a graduate in Civil Engineering from Military Institute of Science and Technology. The officer has attended number of professional courses at home and abroad including Laws of Armed Conflict Course from Turkey and Armed Forces War Course from National Defence College, Bangladesh. Brigadier General Anayetulla Masum commanded a Division Engineer Battalion in Dhaka. He also served as a Directing Staff in Defence Services Command and Staff College. He was a distinguished instructor in the School of Military Engineering and in the School of Infantry and Tactics. He also served as Senior Research Fellow in National Defence College and as the Commander Military Engineering Services (Army) in Dhaka.

He actively participated in humanitarian demining operations in South Sudan under the banner of United Nations and served as Staff Officer (Personnel) in the Force Headquarters of UNMIL in Liberia. On secondment to a special political Mission, the officer was assigned as Sectoral Chairperson of Permanent Ceasefire Committee in Darfur, Sudan.

Currently he is working as Director, Internal Affairs Bureau in Directorate General of Forces Intelligence.
